Enter at Ta’ Marija Restaurant is entering in a family story. Actually, Benny and Maria Muscat opened Ta’ Marija they started in the catering business in the early 60’s when Benny used to run the New Bar Inn. However it was with his and at that time girlfriend Marija, that they changed the character of their New Bar Inn in the The Whisper Knightclub back in July 1964.
It was a movie that inspired them to name their restaurant “The Whisper”. The movie was “Live and let die” and Whisper was the name of Benny’s favourite character in this James Bond movie, which was played by Earl Jolly Brown.
Marija and Benny had a common passion, music and they practically revolutionised the eating in Malta!
Live Bands where hosted each and every night and different famous singers had the pleasure to perform at the Whisper, with many important personalities of Malta and abroad often seen enjoying dining there. Probably not only for the music but also the American Charcoal grill, the only one in Malta at that time.
Ta’ Marija is the evolution of The New Bar Inn first and the Whisper Knightclub second. The concept of Ta’ Marija grew within the love between Benny and Marija and their love for Maltese traditions, culture and cuisine!
It was Marija who redecorated The Whisper, with an amazing wooden ship galley bar and that charming touch typical of the Knights of Malta period. The restoration kept the sense of rustic Malta, that only the genuine countryside products and tools can provide.
TA’ MARIJA ENTERTAINMENT
The real attraction of Ta’ Marija was still the music and the lively athmosphere of the live entertainers.
Still today, their son Ben and his sister Lara, make sure that the traditional identity of Ta’ Marija is kept alive, with folklore dancers and Ghana singers.
